Concours d’Elegance

About Concours d’Elegance

A Concours d’Elegance (from French, meaning a competition of elegance) dates back to the 17th Century French aristocracy, who paraded horse-drawn carriages in the parks of Paris during Summer weekends and holidays. Over time, the gatherings became a competition among automobile owners to be judged on the appearance of their automobiles.

The Mercedes-Benz Club NSW held its first Concours d’Elegance on Sunday 15 April 1973 at Centennial Park in Sydney, in conjunction with the Porsche Club.

Mercedes-Benz Club NSW Concours d’Elegance

The Mercedes-Benz Club NSW (Inc) stage its Concours d’Elegance annually at Gough Whitlam Park, Bayview Ave, Earlwood, in conjunction with the Sydney German Autofest, allowing spectators and entrants to enjoy the formal judging of classic Mercedes Benz vehicles, along with the fun and variety of the Show and Shine crowd from all the German Marques.

Concours entrants have their own separate display area, allowing your prize vehicle to be identified by the crowds as one of the best of the best.

We invite all owners of classic and modern Mercedes Benz to enter their cars in perhaps the biggest Mercedes Benz Concours event held nationally.

Cars are formally judged at the event by trained judges operating under international ICJAG rules.

What Type of Cars Should Enter?

ANY Mercedes Benz vehicle in outstanding original condition.

The general rule is the closer the car is to original condition, the more points it will score.

The vehicle must be clean and free of rust or damage.

Non-factory modifications will lose points, for example, aftermarket radios, non-factory fender trims, spoilers, body kits etc.

How Are The Cars Categorised?

Vehicles entered into Concours will be categorised into a Class by the organisers after the entry closing date.

We try to have at least 4-5 cars in each Class to ensure competition within a Class, and award a trophy for the Class winner and runner up.
